Mark H. Berey
Mr. Berey joined Miller
Global in 2008 as an Executive Vice President. Mr. Berey will be based in
Florida
and will have responsibilities for hotel management and development
primarily in the Eastern United States, Mexico
and the Caribbean.
He has over 25 years of experience in real estate development, retail
and hospitality-related businesses.
Mr. Berey
began his career in banking in
Chicago, and then joined Urban Investment &
Development Co. in 1977. As
SVP and Treasurer he arranged more than $1 billion in financing for this
national real estate company.
He negotiated hotel joint ventures and management contracts with Marriott
and other hotel companies.
From 1986-1989 Mr. Berey was EVP, CFO, and Partner in Himmel & Co., a
Boston-based real estate development and management firm specializing in
large-scale commercial and mixed-use developments. Himmel & Co. partnered
with MKDG Co., which was led by Micky Miller.
In 1989 Himmel & Co. acquired control of Sutton Place Gourmet, a
Washington,
DC based food retailer, and Berey
became President and CEO of Sutton Place.
In 1997, Mr. Berey joined Giant Food, Inc, a publicly traded $4
billion dollar mid-Atlantic supermarket chain, as SVP and CFO. He was
responsible for finance, real estate, and construction until the successful
sale of the company to Royal Ahold.
From 2001
through 2007 Berey was a Board Member and EVP-CFO of Avendra,
LLC, a Rockville, MD based hotel procurement venture founded by Marriott,
Hyatt, Fairmont,
IHG, and ClubCorp. Avendra procured
more than $2 billion of goods and services in 2007.
Mr. Berey holds a B.S. degree from Indiana University and earned an MBA as an F.C. Austin Scholar
at Northwestern
University.
He serves as a Director of FTI Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: FCN) and is a
member of its Audit committee and Governance committee.
He also serves as an Advisory Board member of Swander Pace Capital, San Francisco, CA.
Mr. Berey is a National Trustee of The National Jewish Medical and Research
Center, Denver, CO and serves on the Board of Project REAP (a real estate
non-profit organization) based in
Washington DC.
